2027: No merger agreement reached with any political party, says Obi
The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has dismissed speculations of an ongoing merger between the LP and other opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Obi clarified that while there may have been discussions, no formal agreement has been reached. He emphasized the need for unity among Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliations, to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of mismanaging the nation’s resources.
Obi also expressed concern over Nigeria’s security situation, lamenting the loss of lives due to banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings. He criticized the government’s anti-corruption efforts, stating that corruption and the high cost of governance persist, exacerbating the country’s public debt.
The former Anambra State governor further condemned the excessive foreign travels by government officials in 2024, which he described as a deliberate mismanagement of public funds.
