Four suspects have been taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force in relation to the kidnapping and death of Magnus Okeke, a student at Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ndufu Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area.

Magnus Okeke’s death is still being investigated, according to DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson.

“We have arrested four suspects related to the case. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain whether the incident was a ransom kidnapping, a murder, or related to cult activities. The suspects are currently being questioned,” Ukandu stated.

In a press release, Elom Ubochi, the Public Relations Officer of the university, revealed that the institution’s management collaborated closely with the police and other security agencies in an attempt to rescue the student following the report of his abduction.

Tragically, despite their efforts, Okeke’s decomposed body was discovered under the bridge of Akọ stream at Nwakpu village, along the Ikwo/Abakaliki road, on Monday, June 17, 2024, two weeks after he went missing.

Preliminary reports from security agencies indicate that the suspects involved in Magnus Okeke’s death are youths from Ohankwu village.

Ubochi clarified that there was no cult-related conflict on campus at the time of the incident, contrary to circulating rumors. He also encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the authorities.

The late Magnus Okeke, a student in the Department of Accountancy, was abducted on June 1, 2024, while returning to his private hostel located in Ohankwu village, Ndufu-Alike community.
