Ifeanyi Ubah, a Senator representing Anambra South, is dead

Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu confirmed Ubah’s death on Saturday but did not provide details.

However, a source told News360 Nigeria that the lawmaker had flown to the United Kingdom for treatment.

News360 Nigeria could not independently verify this at the time of filing this report.

Ubah, who until his death was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), died at the age of 53.

Early Life and Education

Ifeanyi Ubah was born on September 3, 1971, as the first son of seven children to Mr. and Mrs. Alphonsus Ubah in Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria.

Due to his parents’ inability to cater to their children’s educational and material needs, Ifeanyi dropped out of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja to learn trade at a young age.

He attended several local and international business courses and seminars in leadership and business management.

Business

Ifeanyi became an exporter of motor tyres and spare parts, primarily in West Africa, including Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and DR Congo, before expanding his business ventures to some European countries, including Belgium and the United Kingdom.

In 2001, he founded Capital Oil and Gas Limited. He is also the founder of The Authority Newspaper, a Nigerian daily, and the owner of Ifeanyi Ubah F.C., a football club in the Nigeria Premier League, following its purchase as Gabros International Football Club.

Politics

In 2014, Ifeanyi Ubah ran unsuccessfully in the Anambra gubernatorial election under the Labour Party.

On February 24, 2019, he was declared the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial election under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) platform but later defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Personal Life

Ifeanyi Ubah was married to Uchenna Ubah, a Business Administration graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria.

The marriage was blessed with five children.

He also runs the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, named after him.

Attempted Assassination

In September 2022, Ifeanyi Ubah survived an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked his convoy in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State. At least five people, including two policemen, were killed. Ubah survived because the vehicle he was riding in was bulletproof.
