Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, a seasoned business expert and leadership figure, has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China strategic partnership.

This significant appointment follows the historic agreement between Nigeria and China, solidified during President Tinubu’s visit to China in early September.

Tegbe’s role will be crucial in strengthening bilateral ties and advancing the objectives of the partnership, which aims to foster cooperation in key areas such as infrastructure, technology, and trade.

Background

Joseph Tegbe was born on March 21, 1966 into a distinguished family in Ibadan, with roots in Labo and Orile-Owu.

He began his education at St. Mary RCM School, Asogo Oyo, and later attended Federal Government College, Ogbomoso, where his academic excellence shone through.

A national scholar and multiple award winner, he went on to study Civil Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he graduated with First Class Honours. His educational foundation set the stage for his remarkable career.

Professional  experience

Tegbe’s impressive professional journey is backed by a series of prestigious academic qualifications.

He has completed executive programs at renowned institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD (France), and Lagos Business School.

Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and holds certifications in the Governance of Enterprise IT.

With over three decades of experience in accounting, tax, management consulting, and technology advisory services, Tegbe served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services for KPMG Nigeria and West Africa.

He led transformative projects for several key public and private sector entities in Nigeria and across West Africa, including the NCC, NIMC, FIRS, and BPE.

Political engagement

Tegbe’s foray into politics began in 2011, and he emerged as a gubernatorial aspirant for Oyo State during the 2019 elections under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Although he withdrew from the primary election, his commitment to the development of Nigeria remains unwavering.

He played an active role in facilitating and moderating national and international programs, including the Presidential-Ministerial Retreat/Policy Dialogue between 2019 and 2021.

Tegbe’s leadership extends beyond the business world, as he has been involved with various influential organizations, including the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), where he contributes to the Infrastructure and Human Capital Development Committee.

His dedication to public service earned him recognition as one of the Most Distinguished Ibadan Indigenes in 2019 by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).

Community  involvement

A man deeply rooted in community service, Tegbe was installed as the Mogaji (family head) of the Oguntegbe Compound in Ibadan by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji.

His involvement in various social and cultural groups, including the Ikoyi Club, Ibadan Solidarity Group, and the Fountain of Hope Society, speaks to his strong sense of civic responsibility.

Personal life

Tegbe is married to Mrs. Abimbola Tegbe (née Ayandipo), and the couple is blessed with two sons. His personal and professional journey is a testament to his commitment to excellence, leadership, and service to his country.
