Liverpool maintained their strong form in the Champions League, securing a 2-0 win over Bologna to go top of the Premier League and take six points from six in Europe.

Following their 3-1 victory over AC Milan, Jurgen Klopp’s side is in a strong position, sitting fifth and pushing for automatic qualification to the last 16.

The Reds still have crucial home fixtures ahead, including matchups against Bayer Leverkusen, managed by former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, and 15-time European champions Real Madrid. But with two wins in two games, Liverpool is off to a perfect start.

Under Klopp’s leadership over the past nine years, Liverpool has achieved significant success, including a Champions League title and multiple finals appearances. Dutch manager Arne Slot, now at the helm, had spoken earlier about his excitement for the famous Anfield atmosphere, and the reality did not disappoint, with a large contingent of Bologna fans enjoying their first European campaign since 1999-2000.

Liverpool came out strong, with Ryan Gravenberch once again impressing after his stellar performance against AC Milan. The midfielder’s link-up play with Mohamed Salah created early opportunities, and while Darwin Nunez couldn’t convert one of Gravenberch’s low crosses, Alexis Mac Allister found the net just 11 minutes in to open his account for the season.

Despite Bologna’s best efforts, led by new boss Vincenzo Italiano, it was Salah’s superb strike that sealed the result for Liverpool, keeping their momentum going. Bologna, who had finished fifth in Serie A last season, gave a spirited performance but couldn’t stop Liverpool’s march forward.

Liverpool’s next challenge in the Champions League will be a trip to Germany to face RB Leipzig, as they aim to continue their unbeaten run.
