VeryDarkMan issues apology for wearing Police uniform (video)

Controversial activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has issued an apology to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) following backlash over footage in which he appeared in a police uniform.

In the viral video, Otse introduced himself as a “chief superintendent of police (CSP) of the Online Division,” stating his mission to “sanitize” social media by exposing abusive online vendors and oppressors.

The incident prompted the NPF to launch an investigation, aiming to determine the origins of the uniform he wore and whether he had any authorization for his actions.

Otse later shared an update via Instagram, explaining he had been interrogated by police officers regarding the controversial footage.

During his statement, VeryDarkMan clarified that impersonation was not his intent and offered an “unreserved apology” to the law enforcement agency.

VeryDarkMan advised the public to seek permission from law enforcement agencies before using “attire resembling their uniforms”.

“Back from the police station where I was interrogated based on the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs,” he wrote.

“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in anyway and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria police force and the office of the inspector general of police…

“I will like to use the medium to tell the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might look like their uniform.

“You might want to use it for good but there are others that might want to use it for bad, so it’s good to get full approval before using anything that might seem impersonating @nigeriapoliceforce and also shout out to my lawyer @adeyanjudeji who is always ready to stand.”
