The Federal Government has initiated the release of funds to settle withheld salaries for members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU), according to Mr. Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF).

In a statement on Saturday, Mokwa confirmed that payments to NASU members are underway, with many already reporting receipt of funds. The government has also disbursed payments for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS), signaling a commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers and pensioners.

This development follows the recent strike by NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), which commenced on Monday. The unions issued a seven-day ultimatum, demanding the government address disparities in payments across university unions, with SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim indicating that the strike will persist if grievances are not resolved.
