AFCONQ 2025: Simon, Chukwueze, six others arrive early in Abidjan

The Super Eagles have kicked off their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze among the early arrivals at the team’s camp in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Monday.

The team, led by media officer reports, saw the arrival of six other players, Amas Obasogie, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Bruno Onyemaechi, Gabriel Osho, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

A total of 21 players, including captain William Ekong, Ademola Lookman, and reigning Africa Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, have been invited for the closing rounds of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The Super Eagles are currently at the top of Group D and will secure their place in the final tournament with at least a point against Benin Republic on Thursday, November 16, at the Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny.

The team is also set to travel to Uyo on Friday for their final qualifying match against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Monday, November 20.

With 10 points currently in the bag, a draw against Benin Republic will guarantee the Super Eagles’ progression to the tournament.

However, with a current tally of seven goals for and none against (following the CAF Disciplinary Board’s award of three points and three goals for the botched Matchday 4 encounter against Libya), the Super Eagles stand head and shoulders above the Amavubi.

The Rwandans have one goal deficit and five points in their favour going into the final two matchdays. (NAN)
