How Oshiomhole opposed son’s nomination as Commissioner – Dept Gov, Idahosa

Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has revealed that former state governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, objected to the nomination of his son, Cyril Oshiomhole, as the state’s Commissioner for Health.

During a Wednesday interview on Channels Television, Idahosa addressed claims of nepotism and state capture following Governor Monday Okpebholo’s nomination of Cyril shortly after assuming office on November 12.

Idahosa emphasized that Adams Oshiomhole was not in favor of his son’s appointment, dispelling allegations that the nomination was influenced by the former governor’s political standing.

The deputy governor highlighted the administration’s commitment to merit-based appointments, adding that the selection process was aimed at strengthening the state’s health sector and ensuring effective governance.

“This position has nothing to do with Adams Oshiomhole. In fact, Adams opposed it. He was against the nomination because of the vision the governor has for the people of Edo State. The governor made the decision to appoint Cyril based on competence, not because of his father.”

Idahosa also referred to Cyril as a skilled medical doctor who is well-qualified to be part of the cabinet.

He said, “Senator Adams Oshiomhole is a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and his son, like any other individual, has his own destiny. Cyril is a seasoned medical doctor. He studied in Nigeria and went on to further his studies in the United States. He is fully qualified to be in the cabinet.

“The fact that he is Oshiomhole’s son does not disqualify him from holding a position he is competent to manage. He will serve as Commissioner for Health based on merit.”
