Sancho scores as Chelsea beats Southampton 5-1 in dominant win
Jadon Sancho scored his first goal for Chelsea as they cruised to a commanding victory over Southampton, capitalizing on defensive errors to secure a comfortable win.
Sancho’s strike capped off a five-goal performance, with Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, and Cole Palmer also finding the back of the net. Southampton’s Joe Aribo briefly equalized, but the home side’s defensive lapses proved costly.
Chelsea opened the scoring when Axel Disasi nodded in Enzo Fernandez’s corner after a mishap by Saints goalkeeper Joe Lumley. However, Aribo equalized minutes later, converting a precise cross from Kyle Walker-Peters.
A critical mistake from Lumley allowed Nkunku to score into an empty net, restoring Chelsea’s lead. Noni Madueke extended the advantage after a brilliant solo effort, weaving past defenders before slotting home.
Southampton’s woes deepened when captain Jack Stephens was sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair during a corner setup, leaving them with 10 men.
Chelsea continued their onslaught, with Cole Palmer hitting the woodwork and eventually scoring his ninth goal of the season. Substitute Jadon Sancho sealed the victory, calmly finishing from Malo Gusto’s through ball.
The win lifted Chelsea to second place in the league, surpassing Arsenal, while Southampton remained rooted at the bottom of the table.
