The Aholu of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry, Oba Sejiro James, has officially installed Mohammed Umar as the Seriki Fulani of Badagry.

The coronation ceremony, held at the Sito Gbethrome community along the Semé expressway, was attended by Fulani socio-cultural organizations from the South-West and neighboring Benin Republic.

Presenting Umar with the traditional staff and beads, Oba Sejiro James remarked, “Though the stool you are on is too high, you have been endorsed by God today, and He will be guarding you.” He advised the new Seriki Fulani to actively address issues within Badagry communities, particularly conflicts between pastoralists and farmers. The monarch also suggested that Umar appoint representatives across other communities to ensure effective leadership.

Saidu Yusuf, Chairman of the APC for Arewa communities in Lagos State, urged unity and collaboration between Fulani and Yoruba residents. “We should put politics aside and work to develop our communities,” Yusuf said.

Mohammed Laba, the Seriki Fulani of Abeokuta and Chairman of Miyetti Allah in the South-West, emphasized the importance of traditional leadership in resolving communal disputes. Similarly, Aminu Dogara, Chairman of the Arewa Council of Chiefs in Lagos, reaffirmed his community’s commitment to the welfare of all residents.

In his address, the newly installed Seriki Fulani, Mohammed Umar, pledged to focus on alleviating poverty, improving access to education, and enhancing healthcare for his people. He assured the community of his commitment to fostering peace and development.

The installation ceremony is seen as a significant step in strengthening relationships between diverse communities in Badagry and addressing lingering conflicts in the region.
