La Liga: Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. handed two-match suspension

Brazilian and Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior is set to miss two La Liga fixtures against Las Palmas and Real Valladolid after receiving a red card in their clash with Valencia.

The dismissal came after an altercation where Vinicius hit Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski during Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory at the Mestalla in their first La Liga game of 2025.

Despite his suspension in the league, Vinicius Junior will remain eligible to participate in the Spanish Super Cup this week.

Valencia initially took the lead in the first half through their leading scorer this season, Hugo Duro. However, Real Madrid staged a stunning comeback in the second half.

Substitute Luka Modric equalized in the 85th minute, and Jude Bellingham sealed the dramatic victory with a stoppage-time goal, solidifying Real Madrid’s grip on the match.

The result meant Real Madrid went ahead of Atlético Madrid at the top of the La Liga table, two points clear of their rivals and having played a game more.

After the game, Vinicius tweeted, “Sorry, and thanks, team!”
