Fuel scarcity looms as NUPENG declares intention to join nationwide strike

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has declared its support for the indefinite nationwide strike called by the Organised Labour, set to commence on Monday.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Afolabi Olawale the NUPENG General Secretary, confirmed the union’s dedication to fully participate in the strike.

This is in response to the directive from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), who have called for a nationwide strike to protest the Federal Government’s failure to implement a new minimum wage.

Olawale expressed deep concern over the Federal Government’s handling of the minimum wage negotiations, criticizing its insensitivity to the plight of Nigerian workers.

He underscored the detrimental impact of current socio-economic policies on the working population, urging union leaders at all levels to prepare for comprehensive participation in the strike.

With the strike imminent, the likelihood of widespread fuel shortages across Nigeria grows, exacerbating the already pressing labour dispute and potentially leading to significant disruptions in the country’s fuel supply.
