Peter Mbah, a native of the Igbo tribe was born on March 17th, 1972, in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria.

Education

His secondary education was completed at Owode High School in Owode Egba, Ogun State, after he completed his elementary education at Army Children’s School in Bori Camp, Port Harcourt.

Mbah attended the University of East London in the United Kingdom to study law.

In 2000, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws. He then went to the Nigerian Law School and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar.

He graduated from Lagos State University with a master’s degree in maritime and commercial law in 2004.

Mbah completed his postgraduate diploma in strategy and innovation at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and her MBA at the IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Barcelona, Spain.

In 2021, Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu granted him an honorary doctorate in political science.

He is a Fellow of the Certified Institute of Public Administration and Management (CIPM), the Nigerian Bar Association, and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.

Career

Peter Mbah oversaw the National Youth Service Corps at the Lagos-based law firm Associates and Udeh.

Peter Mbah Investments Limited was established by him in 1992, with an emphasis on the oil and gas industry.

He established the FOCUS International Schools in Lagos state in addition to GILPEL Industries Ltd., an importer of general goods, which he founded between 1993 and 1997.

Mbah is the exclusive representative of International Oil Corporation, a U.S.A. oil and gas enterprise situated in Fresno, California.

He established Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd. and serves as its CEO.

In 2021, this establishment finished developing the Lekki Free Trade Zone’s Single Point Monitoring (SPM), Conventional Buoy Mooring (CBM), and storage facilities.

Politics

Chimaroke Nnamani, the former governor of Enugu state, appointed Dr. Mbah as chief of staff before appointing him as commissioner for finance and economic development in 2003.

He served as a member of the State Security Council, the Enugu State Executive Council, and the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee.

He was also the chairman of the Enugu State Insurance Company’s board of directors, the Enugu State Finance and Investment Company’s board of directors, and the chairman of the Enugu State Tenders’ Board.

He also chaired the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee’s Subcommittee on Legal Matters.

He is a strong member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Peter Mbah emerged victorious in the primary election held at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on May 25, 2022, with 790 votes out of 807 cast, to be the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Enugu state ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

Dr. Peter Mbah was sworn in as the governor of Enugu State on May 29, 2023, after winning the state’s 2023 governor’s race.

Private life

The parents of Dr. Peter Mbah are Ashishi Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area, Enugu State’s Chief and Mrs. Gilbert Ekete Mbah.

In an attempt to help the less fortunate in rural communities, he established the Peter Mbah Foundation (PMF), a non-governmental organization.

Nkechinyere Mbah is his wife, and together they have four lovely children.

Dr. Mbah is an avid sailor and member of the Lagos Yacht Club. Along with being a fitness enthusiast, he is a member of the Enugu Sports Club.
