Birth

Ademola Adeleke was born on May 13, 1960, in Ede LGA, Osun state.

Education

He attended Methodist Primary School in Surulere, Lagos, for his early schooling before relocating to Nawarudeen Primary School in Ikire, Oyo State, Nigeria.

After that, he enrolled in Ede Muslim Grammar School and Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School Ede, where he finished his secondary education.

He studied political science and criminal justice at Jacksonville State University in Alabama, in the United States and later graduated from Atlanta Metropolitan State College with a degree in criminal justice.

Career

Adeleke has had several decades of success in business, amassing sufficient fortune and company for himself in the process.

Ademola was employed as a service contractor by Quicksilver Courier Company in Atlanta, Georgia, US, from 1985 to 1989.

He served as Vice President of Origin International LLC, a US company that manufactures flavors and fragrances, in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1990 to 1994.

Adeleke served as an executive director of Guinness Nigeria Plc from 1992 to 1999.

Later, he worked as an executive director for Pacific Holdings Ltd., his brother’s business, from 2001 to 2016.

Politics

Adeleke began his political career in 2001 with Senator Isiaka Adeleke, his late brother, who passed away in April 2017.

Following the passing of his brother, he ran in the 2017 Osun West by-election and won under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party.

Up until April 2017, Ademola belonged to the All Progressives Congress. After that, he switched to the People’s Democratic Party.

On July 23, 2018, Adeleke defeated his nearest opponent, Akin Ogunbiyi, by a margin of seven votes to become the PDP’s nominee for governor of Osun State.

On September 22, 2018, Adeleke, an Osun State resident, entered the governorship race as a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), competing against Gboyega Oyetola of the APC and Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

After declaring the election to be undecided, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) set a rerun date of September 27, 2018. The APC candidate Oyetola emerged victorious in the run-off election.

Adeleke disagreed with the results and called the election a “coup.” Adeleke was declared the election’s winner by a tribunal on March 22, 2019.

On Friday, July 5, 2019, the Supreme Court confirmed Gboyega Oyetola as the official victor of the 2018 Osun State gubernatorial election.

Adeleke ran against the sitting governor, Gboyega Oyetola, in the July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election under the PDP banner. After obtaining the majority of the votes, Adeleke was declared the winner of the election.

Private life

Ademola Adeleke hails from Ede LGA in Osun State, home of the well-known and powerful Adeleke family.

His father, Raji Ayoola Adeleke, is a Muslim, and his mother, Nnena Esther Adeleke, is an Igbo-Christian.

Adeleke is the president of Adeleke University and the late senator Isiaka Adeleke’s brother.

He is the father of a popular singer, B-red, and the third and last child of his parents. He is also the uncle of well-known musician Davido.

Gov. Adeleke is married to Mrs. Titilola Adeleke and they have children together.
