The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is an investigative law enforcement body that oversees financial crimes such as advance fee fraud (419 fraud), money laundering, and cybercrimes.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo founded it in 2003 in an effort to reduce Nigeria’s high incidence of financial crimes.

EFCC Ranks

The ranking of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is based on the members’ years of service, experience, and academic credentials.

The ranks in order of hierarchy are listed below;

  • Director
  • Deputy Director (DD)
  • Assistant Director (AD)
  • Chief Detective Superintendent (CDS)
  • Detective Superintendent(DS)
  • Assistant Detective Superintendent (ADS)

EFCC salary structure

The EFCC pays its officers based on their ranks; officers with higher ranks receive higher pay than those with lower ranks.

Below is a list of the monthly salaries that EFCC officers receive:

  • Director: N300,000
  • Deputy Director (DD): N250,000
  • Assistant Director (AD): N190,000
  • Chief Detective Superintendent (CDS): N170,000
  • Detective Superintendent (DS): N150,000
  • Assistant Detective Superintendent (ADS): N140,000

Benefits and allowances

The following additional benefits and allowances are given to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission employees in addition to their monthly salary:

  • Uniform allowance
  • Transportation allowance
  • Medical allowance
  • Hazard allowance
  • Food allowance
