Nigerian Army Ranks

Similar to most military organizations worldwide, the Nigerian Army is organized according to a system of ranks.

Commissioned officers and non-commissioned officers are the two categories into which the ranks are divided.

Those who enrolled in the Nigerian Army after graduating or completing the Nigerian Defence Academy are known as commissioned officers; they hold high positions and exercise command over the leadership.

Non-commissioned officers are junior members of the Nigerian Army who have successfully completed the standard six-month military training program and are recruited using their secondary school diplomas.

Nigerian Army Salary structure

Established in 2017, the Consolidated Naval Salary Structure (CONNESS) serves as the foundation for the salary structure of the Nigerian Army.

Commission officers and non-commission officers make up the two groups under which the pay scale is separated.

The salaries that Nigerian Army personnel receive each month are broken down below.

Commissioned officers;

  • General: N1.5 million
  • Lieutenant General: N1 million
  • Major General: N950,000
  • Brigadier General: N750,000
  • Colonel: N550,000
  • Lieutenant Colonel: N350,000
  • Major: N300,000
  • Captain: N220,000
  • Lieutenant: N180,000
  • Second Lieutenant: N120,000

Non-Commissioned officers;

  • Master Warrant Officer: N90,000
  • Warrant Officer: N80,000
  • Staff Sergeant: N68,000
  • Sergeant: N63,000
  • Corporal: N58,000
  • Lance Corporal: N57,000
  • Private: N50,000
  • Recruit: N40,000
