Birth

Dikko Radda is a Fulani from Dutsin-Ma LGA in Katsina State. He was born on September 10th, 1969 in Hayin Gada Town, Katsina State.

Education

Radda attended Radda Primary School from 1974 to 1980 for his foundational education. He attended Zaria Teachers College from 1980 to 1985.

He completed his NCE studies at Kafanchan College of Education between 1986 and 1990.

He studied at Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi from 1992 to 1996, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension.

In 1998, he received his Master of Science degree from Ahmadu Bello University in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology.

In 2005, he graduated from the same university with a second Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy.

He received his doctorate in agricultural and rural sociology in 2015.

Career

Dikko was a classroom teacher from 1989 until 1999. From 1999 to 2003, he was employed as a banker at the now-defunct FSB International Bank.

Politics

He was named chairman of the Charanchi LGA caretaker committee in 2003, and in 2005 he was elevated to the position of chairman of the Charanchi LGA.

Prior to being appointed Chief of Staff to Rt Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, in 2015, he was the APC National Welfare Secretary in 2013.

Dr. Dikko Umar Radda was originally appointed as the DG SMEDAN on March 14, 2016, initially serving a five-year term.

His background in both the public and private sectors of the economy allowed him to design strategies that would aid the country’s micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSME).

In order to compete in the Katsina State governorship primary, Dr. Dikko Radda announced in April 2023 that he was resigning from his position as Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

On March 18, 2023, he defeated his closest rival in the state’s general elections to become the next governor of the state after winning the All Progressive Congress primary elections.

Personal life

Dikko Radda has been actively involved in a number of charitable endeavors.

In 2016, he founded the Gwagware Foundation, whose main goals are to fund and train young people in various entrepreneurial skills and to provide basic amenities for the underprivileged.

He is happily married and has children.

In July of 2007, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Usman Nagogo, the late Emir of Katsina, bestowed upon Dikko Umar Radda the traditional title of Gwagwaren Katsina.
