The NFF will have to break the money to hire the highly sought-after Herve Renard as the Super Eagles’ next coach.

This comes after the French coach sought a monthly salary of $180,000 (about N253 million), among other stipulations.

A top official said, “Yes, the NFF have made contact with Renard for the Super Eagles job, but the biggest stumbling block is that he is demanding a salary of $180,000 (a month), which in Naira is almost close to 300 Million.

“This will be the highest ever paid to a coach and the NFF just cannot afford this.

“This may well be a wild goose chase.”

Egypt have reportedly dangled a $1.9 Million to Renard, while his name has been brought into the discussion as regards the new coach of the United States of America.

The 54-year-old coach has won the AFCON with Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire.

It would be recalled that the immediate past foreign coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, had to take a huge pay cut to extend his contract till the delayed AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

Peseiro was on $70,000-a-month when he started out as the Super Eagles coach, but this was later slashed to $50,000.

And even at that he was owed for as many as 13 months at a time.

Sports Minister John Enoh has maintained that it is the responsibility of the NFF to pay for a foreign coach for the national team.
