As the ten-day nationwide protests concluded on Saturday, some residents of Kano State turned to prayer, seeking divine intervention to address the many challenges facing the nation.

Despite pressures to cancel, the residents held a special prayer session at the Isyaku Rabiu Mosque in the Goron Dutse area of Dala Local Government.

Rabiu Shamma, a local resident, shared a brief video on Facebook showing the prayer in progress, captioning it: “A Quranic recitation from here at Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu mosque, Goron Dutse, Kano for a prayer for the situation our country is in, may we find solace. Amin.”

The special prayers were also held in various areas, including Gyadi-Gyadi, Hausawa, Daurawa, Yankaba, Sabon Titi, Panshekara, and Tudun Murtala, among others.

The prayer session proceeded despite an earlier announcement from one of the organizers, Mubarak Ibrahim, canceling the event due to security concerns.

The protests, which began peacefully on August 1st, escalated into violence, resulting in injuries, looting, and damage to public and private properties in the state.
