Nigeria’s economy will continue to crumble if Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention – Ejimakor to Tinubu

Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against continuing to detain Kanu.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ejimakor warned that Nigeria’s socio-economic situation could worsen as long as Tinubu sanctions Kanu’s detention, which he deems illegal.

Kanu, who has been in detention since June 2021 after being rearrested and extradited from Kenya, remains in custody despite court orders for his release. Ejimakor highlighted the deteriorating economic conditions in Nigeria, linking them to Kanu’s incarceration, and emphasized that ignoring these warnings could lead to further instability.

The statement comes amid rising public discontent, with nationwide protests already underway and a second phase planned for October 1.
