Amid rising fuel costs in Nigeria, some residents of Asaba, Delta State, disregarded the risk of an explosion to scoop petrol from a fallen tanker in the State capital.

The incident occurred around 9 PM on Monday at Afu-Aku junction, opposite Sir Walks Motor Park.

The petrol tanker, en route to Onitsha, overturned while navigating a bad spot after descending from the Koka flyover. While the panic-stricken driver fled the scene, residents rushed to collect the leaking fuel using containers, despite the potential danger.

Fire service personnel promptly arrived to secure the area, preparing for any fire outbreak. Although no casualties were reported, the incident caused heavy traffic congestion, affecting vehicles from Benin, Summit, Ibusa, and Koka routes.

This situation highlights the growing desperation among Nigerians struggling with the increasing fuel prices.
