AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Super Eagles, Rwanda’s Amavubi arrive Uyo

Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Rwanda’s Amavubi have arrived in Uyo ahead of their Monday clash, marking the concluding matchday of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

Both teams landed at the Obong Victor Attah International Airport on Friday, setting the stage for the showdown at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The Super Eagles, already confirmed as group winners, will play for national pride in what is expected to be a relaxed affair following their hard-fought draw against Benin Republic in Abidjan.

Meanwhile, the Amavubi’s qualification hopes hang by a thread.

To secure a spot in Morocco 2025, Rwanda must defeat Nigeria and hope Libya overcomes Benin Republic in North Africa.

Nigeria’s delegation arrived in Uyo from Abidjan aboard a chartered ValueJet aircraft, touching down at 3:50 p.m.

Rwanda’s team took a Rwandair flight to Lagos, continuing to Uyo via Ibom Air, landing just before 5 p.m.

Fans anticipate a lively celebration at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, with the Super Eagles already securing their AFCON ticket.

The teams previously played to a goalless draw in Kigali, though controversy surrounded Ademola Lookman’s disallowed goal in the first half.

Moroccan referee Samir Guezzaz will officiate Monday’s encounter, supported by compatriots Zakaria Brinsi, Abdessamad Abertoune, and Kech Chaf Mustapha.

Additional officials include Prosper Harrison Addo from Ghana as commissioner and Ali Mohamed Ahmed from Somalia as referee assessor.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., with fans ready to cheer the Super Eagles in a celebratory atmosphere.
