ASUU national leadership meets in Abuja amid strike fears

The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to convene today, Thursday, in Abuja, amid rising concerns about a potential nationwide university strike.

This meeting follows a series of pre-strike notices issued to the Federal Government, highlighting ASUU’s dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to meet prior commitments.

On September 24, ASUU issued a 14-day strike ultimatum, vowing to shut down universities if their long-standing grievances remain unresolved. This ultimatum comes after a previous 21-day notice given on August 18, calling on the government to take swift action.

At today’s meeting, ASUU is expected to deliver a “State of the Nation” address, which could provide clarity on the looming strike. Students across the country are anxiously awaiting the outcome, as the possibility of another disruption to academic activities grows more likely.
