Benjamin Mendy prevails in wage dispute with Man City

French defender Benjamin Mendy has successfully won a legal dispute with Manchester City, securing approximately £11 million in unpaid wages.

Mendy, who faced serious charges, including six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, was acquitted when evidence was deemed insufficient.

Throughout the legal process, Manchester City withheld Mendy’s pay due to his inability to perform club duties.

This financial strain forced Mendy to sell his Cheshire mansion and rely on loans from former teammates to cover legal fees, bills, and child support.

Following the tribunal’s ruling, Mendy will receive the majority of his withheld salary, although the exact sum requires further negotiation.

If no agreement is reached, a future hearing will determine the remaining amount.

In summarizing the judgment, the tribunal stated that “Mr Mendy will be entitled to receive the majority of his unpaid salary, although not all of it.”

Judge Joanne Dunlop noted that Mendy had spent two separate periods in custody, totaling about five months out of the 22 months covered in his claim.

During these months in custody, Manchester City was entitled to withhold his pay.
