The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has resumed the recruitment of over 9,000 teachers following the approval of the Benue State House of Assembly.

This comes after the Assembly temporarily suspended the process in mid-December to allow an Ad-Hoc Committee, led by Cephas Dyako, to investigate the exercise for compliance with extant laws and due process.

The investigation concluded that the Dr. Grace Adagba-led management of SUBEB adhered to transparency and legal protocols. The Assembly’s committee affirmed that the Board is empowered by law to recruit, appoint, promote, and discipline teaching and non-teaching staff on grade levels 07 and above.

Out of 74,574 applicants, 48,895 candidates participated in the Computer-Based Test (CBT). The recruitment has now entered its final phase with the screening of candidates who met the cut-off marks.

In a statement by the Board’s Information Officer, Emmanuel Akese, SUBEB expressed gratitude to shortlisted candidates for their patience and assured them of a fair and transparent screening process aimed at strengthening basic education in the state.

The screening exercise is scheduled to run from January 10 to January 16, 2024, at SUBEB headquarters, with specific dates allocated to applicants from each of the state’s 23 Local Government Areas.
