Benue is ready to pay N70,000 minimum wage, says Gov Alia

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has announced that his administration is prepared to implement a N70,000 minimum wage for state employees.

Speaking with journalists in Makurdi, Governor Alia highlighted his administration’s efforts to eliminate financial inefficiencies and boost the state’s revenue.

“Despite the challenging economic conditions, we have implemented strategic measures to ensure progress. Our internally generated revenue has seen an increase,” he noted.

Governor Alia emphasized the importance of closing financial loopholes to secure the necessary funds for various initiatives, including salary payments. “With our determined approach and intent, we can align with the Federal Government’s directives on the minimum wage,” he stated.

He also underscored the essential role of the workforce in effective governance.

“A government cannot function properly without its civil servants. Therefore, it is crucial to provide them with the wages approved by the Federal Government and organized labor,” he concluded.
