Gabriel Jeremiah Adedayo Osho, is an English-born Nigerian defender who has become a prominent figure in professional football.

Known for his defensive versatility, Osho currently plays for French Ligue 1 club Auxerre and can operate both as a center-back and a full-back.

Recently, he garnered attention as the newest addition to Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad, where he finally opened up about why he declined his initial call-up to the national team.

1. Dual heritage

Born on August 14, 1998, in Reading, England, Gabriel Jeremiah Adedayo Osho has both English and Nigerian roots.

His dual heritage has influenced his journey in football and his eventual call-up to represent Nigeria.

2. Versatile defender

Primarily a center-back, Osho is known for his versatility. He can also play as a full-back, which adds depth to his defensive capabilities and makes him a valuable asset to his current team, French Ligue 1 club Auxerre.

3. Early education

Osho balanced academics with his football training, attending Leighton Park School and later The Forest School in Winnersh.

His youth football career began in Reading FC’s academy in 2008, setting him on the path to professionalism.

4. Reading FC professional

Osho signed his first professional contract with Reading FC in July 2016. He extended his contract in 2018, committing to the club that had nurtured his talents since childhood.

5. Loan spells for experience

During his time at Reading, Osho gained experience through loan stints at Maidenhead United, Aldershot Town, and Yeovil Town.

In November 2020, Osho joined Luton Town in the EFL Championship. He quickly became a key player, notably scoring a critical goal in the 2021-22 Championship play-off semi-final, which helped Luton secure promotion to the Premier League.

Osho made his Premier League debut in October 2023, marking the occasion memorably with a goal against Arsenal. This achievement solidified his place in England’s top-flight league before his move to France.

9. New chapter with Auxerre

In July 2024, Osho signed with French club Auxerre, newly promoted to Ligue 1. This transition marked a new phase in his career, as he now competes in one of Europe’s top leagues, facing new challenges and growth opportunities.

10. Super Eagles call-up

Eligible to play for Nigeria, Osho received his first call-up to the Super Eagles in March 2024.

Although an injury delayed his debut, he is now set to join the team for AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, bringing depth and experience to Nigeria’s defense.
