BREAKING: Nigeria’s power grid collapses for the 12th time in 2024
Nigeria’s power grid has suffered yet another collapse, marking the 12th occurrence this year.
According to the Independent System Operator (ISO), a division of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the collapse occurred around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Prior to the outage, the grid had been producing an average of 3,087 megawatts by 1 p.m.
This latest collapse highlights the ongoing challenges within Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, which has faced repeated disruptions throughout the year.
The situation has left businesses and households across the country grappling with power outages, prompting renewed calls for urgent reforms in the energy sector. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or provide an update on efforts to restore electricity.
In a statement, the Jos Disco confirmed the collapse, saying: “The current outage being experienced within our franchise States is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid.
“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this afternoon at about 1333 hours of today, Wednesday, 11th December 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.
“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”
