BREAKING: Ten dead, several others injured in stampede during Christmas food distribution in Abuja

A tragic stampede during a food distribution event at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, has claimed the lives of ten people, including four children.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. during an outreach program aimed at supporting vulnerable and elderly residents.

In addition to the fatalities, eight others sustained injuries of varying severity. While four of the injured have been treated and discharged, the remaining victims are receiving medical attention at nearby hospitals.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

The Command expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.
