Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe is a renowned figure in the field of surgery who has once again been entrusted with the leadership of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.

His reappointment as Chief Medical Director by President Bola Tinubu in August 2024 underscores his exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

Birth

Born on March 27, 1965, in Sheshe Quarters, Kano Municipal Local Government.

Education

Professor Sheshe has been a driving force in medical education and healthcare in Nigeria. His academic journey began at the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he completed his Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) studies in 1984/85.

He later pursued pre-clinical studies at Bayero University, Kano, in 1986 before transferring to the University of Ilorin in 1988. There, he completed his clinical studies and earned an MBBS degree in 1991.

Career in healthcare

Professor Sheshe’s career is distinguished by a series of pivotal roles, including serving as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee and Director of Clinical Services, Training, and Research at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital from 2015.

As a Consultant Surgeon and a Fellow of the National Postgraduate College of Surgeons, he has been instrumental in advancing medical practice and education in Nigeria.

His unwavering dedication to clinical excellence and healthcare improvement has made him a respected figure in the medical community.

Leadership roles

His remarkable leadership and expertise led to his initial appointment as Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on December 17, 2019.

Recognizing his significant impact on the health sector, President Bola Tinubu reappointed him in August 2024 for a second term.
