Budget Resubmission: Defected lawmakers wasting thier time, money – Fubara

The Rivers State Government has maintained that its ₦800 billion 2024 budget remains valid, despite a Federal High Court ruling annulling the budget passed by the Edison Ehie-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

On Wednesday, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Peter Medee, stated that the budget has already been enacted into law and is currently being implemented.

Speaking on a radio program in Port Harcourt, Medee argued that contesting the budget at this stage is a waste of time and resources.

This comes after the Bright Amaewhule-led faction of the Assembly, which is loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, requested Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resubmit the budget for approval.

However, the state government insists that the budget, passed by the Ehie-led Assembly, was done lawfully, dismissing any need for resubmission.

The government further argues that the Amaewhule-led faction’s seats are vacant due to their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), thus invalidating their authority to contest the budget.
