CJN Kekere-Ekun summons Judges over conflicting political rulings in Rivers

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has called for an investigation into federal and state high court judges involved in issuing conflicting political rulings in Rivers State.

This move comes amid rising concerns over judicial impartiality in cases tied to the ongoing political feud between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former ally, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

On Monday, the CJN convened a National Judicial Council (NJC) panel at her office, urging them to expedite the probe and provide a report by week’s end. The panel, chaired by a former Court of Appeal justice, includes two court heads, giving it the authority to assess the conduct of the judges summoned.

In addition, the CJN has summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for questioning, as part of her independent directive following public complaints. The outcome of the panel’s findings may hold significant implications for judicial standards in politically sensitive cases.
