Court grants ex-Kogi Gov Yahaya Bello N500m fresh bail
The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, who has been in detention since December 10, 2024, has been granted bail of N500 million by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama.
Justice Maryann Anenih, in her ruling on Thursday, ordered Bello to provide three sureties with landed properties in prime areas of Abuja. Additionally, Bello was directed to surrender his international passport and must not leave the country without prior approval.
The former governor faces a 16-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and possession of unlawfully acquired properties.
The EFCC alleges that Bello misappropriated state funds to acquire multiple high-value properties in Abuja and Dubai, among other financial irregularities, amounting to over N110 billion.
