Defence Minister commissions new combat helicopters, sends strong message to bandits

Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has expressed optimism that the end of banditry in Nigeria is approaching, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the military and other stakeholders to ensure the nation’s safety.

His remarks come on the heels of significant successes recorded by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) over the past week, which saw several bandit hideouts dismantled in the Northwest Region.

On Monday, while commissioning two newly-inducted ATAK-129 Helicopters at the Nigerian Air Force Airport Wing in Katsina State, the Minister commended the ongoing efforts. He was accompanied by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar. The helicopters, now part of Operation Hadarin Daji’s Sector 2, have been strategically deployed to bolster the fight against banditry.

Highlighting the advanced capabilities of the ATAK-129 Helicopters, Minister Abubakar stated they offer superior maneuverability compared to traditional fighter jets, making it nearly impossible for enemies to evade justice. These cutting-edge assets will be used to eliminate bandit and criminal networks that threaten peace and security across the Northwest.
