Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has appointed his brother, Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, as the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission.

The announcement, made in Asaba, marks the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s sports administration following Chief Tonobok Okowa’s eight-year tenure.

Governor Oborevwori expressed confidence in Onoriode’s ability to enhance sports development across Delta State, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to fostering youth participation in athletics. “This appointment reflects our dedication to achieving sports excellence and creating opportunities for young talents,” he stated.

Onoriode Oborevwori, a grassroots football advocate and former sponsor of Delta Babes Football Club, will lead a board that includes prominent figures such as:

Sam Sodje: A former Super Eagles player who had a successful career in Nigeria and England. Sodje also serves as a member of the Delta State Football Association.

Henrietta Ehiabor: The former Chairperson of Delta Queens FC, known for leading the team to victory in the Nigerian Female Professional League.

Oghale Ofremu: A chairman of a Nationwide League One (NLO1) club and former member of the sports commission, affiliated with Solomon Ogba.

The new leadership aims to build on the state’s sporting achievements and further empower youth through diverse sports initiatives.
