A driver narrowly escaped death on Monday morning when a 40-foot loaded container toppled onto his Toyota Camry (registration number LSR 293 HJ) along Mile 2, en route to Apapa Ports in Lagos.

The accident occurred around 8:00 a.m., according to eyewitness accounts. Quick intervention by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) ensured the driver’s rescue.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital by the joint rescue team for immediate medical attention. Officers from the Kirikiri Police Division maintained security at the scene, enabling emergency responders to work efficiently.

Following the successful rescue, the damaged Toyota Camry was removed from beneath the container. As of 9:30 a.m., efforts to clear the fallen container and ease traffic congestion were still ongoing, with LASTMA officials managing the situation.

“Negligence in securing containers endangers lives and property,” he said, urging strict adherence to road safety protocols to prevent such incidents.

“LASTMA remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Lagos roadways and continues to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to uphold traffic laws and enhance public safety,” Bakare-Oki added.
