Edo lawmaker Ojezele Osezua dumps PDP, joins APC
The member representing Esan South-East Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Ojezele Osezua Sunday, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Announcing his decision at the APC State Secretariat in Benin City on Monday, the lawmaker described the move as a “homecoming,” stating his previous affiliation with the APC before joining the PDP in 2019 alongside former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Explaining his reasons, Sunday said:
“I am indebted to the APC, and today, I am here to repay that debt by returning to the party.
In 2019, I left the APC for the PDP due to irreconcilable differences, but with the issues rocking the PDP today, I have returned to the APC.”
The acting chairman of the APC in Edo State, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, warmly welcomed Sunday back, calling him an asset to the party. He noted that Sunday’s defection was long anticipated following the PDP’s defeat in the September 21 gubernatorial election.
With this development, the composition of the Edo State House of Assembly now stands at 13 PDP lawmakers, 10 APC lawmakers, and one from the Labour Party. Observers speculate that more PDP legislators may join the APC in the coming weeks.
This defection underscores the shifting political landscape in Edo State as the APC continues to consolidate its influence.
