Enyimba FC part ways with head coach Yemi Olanrewaju amid poor run
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) giants Enyimba FC have announced the dismissal of their head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju, following a string of disappointing performances.
The club confirmed the decision on Saturday via a social media statement, expressing gratitude for Olanrewaju’s contributions and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
“Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olanrewaju. The club thanks Coach Olanrewaju for his services and wishes him the best in his future endeavours,” the statement read.
Olanrewaju, 32, was appointed seven months ago after the exit of former head coach Finidi George. However, his tenure has been marred by a nine-match winless streak, including six consecutive league draws.
The club’s struggles extend to the CAF Confederations Cup, where they sit at the bottom of Group D with just one point from three matches. In domestic competition, Enyimba is currently 11th on the NPFL table, having accumulated 23 points from 15 games.
Olanrewaju’s dismissal came just 48 hours after a disappointing league draw against Plateau United. Over his 26-match tenure, he recorded nine wins and seven losses. Despite his previous experience as an assistant manager at Magate FC, MFM, and Vandrezzer, his time at Enyimba failed to meet the club’s high expectations.
