Gov Otu suspends Village Head over alleged misuse of office
Governor of Cross River State, Apostle Bassey Otu has approved the suspension of Chief Okon Archibong, the Village Head of Esuk Utan, along with his council members, following allegations of power misuse.
The suspension was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Mr. Nsa Gil, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, in Calabar.
The action was prompted by multiple petitions accusing the traditional ruler and his council of office abuse.
Governor Otu has directed the Calabar Municipal Traditional Rulers Council to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and provide recommendations based on their findings.
“Report on findings and recommendations should be sent to the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs within one week.
“The Obutong Clan Council is mandated to set up a five-man committee to manage the affairs of Esuk Utan Village pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Otu called on members of the public living or operating businesses in Esuk Utan to go about their normal activities and cease all dealings with the suspended village head and his council.
