In response to ongoing economic challenges, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reinstated several relief measures to alleviate hardship.

Key initiatives include the reintroduction of Sunday markets offering a 25% discount on food items and a 25% reduction in transport fares.

Additionally, the government is offering free medical outreach services and free delivery for expectant mothers in hospitals.

These announcements were made by the Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, during an interview on TVC News.

Omotoso emphasized that these measures were not a reaction to the recent #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests but had been in place prior to the demonstrations.

“Millions of Lagosians have benefited from the 25% discount on food items, which is why it remains popular and requested by the public,” Omotoso stated.

He highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to support its citizens, including vocational training programs that have equipped thousands of graduates with the tools to start their own businesses.

Addressing the protests, Omotoso noted that the government has learned valuable lessons. “Effective communication and non-violence are crucial. It’s time for the protesters to go home and for all parties to discuss and resolve the issues at hand,” he said.
