In a tragic turn of events on Tuesday, September 3, a police corporal was killed during an attack by unidentified gunmen on the Oba police divisional headquarters and the nearby Oba Civic Centre in Anambra State.

The assailants launched their assault with sporadic gunfire as they attempted to breach the police station. In the chaos, they hurled petrol bombs, igniting fires that damaged several offices, including those at the Civic Centre.

Despite the brave resistance from the police and a Joint Security response team, the corporal sustained severe injuries and later died from them.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, condemned the attack, calling it an affront to the nation and vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized the importance of maintaining security in the region and urged the community to assist in identifying those responsible.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, which underscores the ongoing security challenges in maintaining law and order in the region.
