Historic comeback: Donald Trump to meet Biden in White House

President-elect Donald Trump is set to meet with outgoing President Joe Biden at the White House on Wednesday, marking the beginning of an unprecedented transition of power.

In a rare moment in U.S. history, Biden will transfer the presidency back to Trump, whom he defeated four years ago.

The meeting will take place in the Oval Office at 11:00 am (1600 GMT), just months before Trump officially resumes office in January.

Trump’s return to power comes after his victory in the November 5 election, where he secured a larger margin than before, despite controversies surrounding his first term, including a criminal conviction and two impeachments.

Voter exit polls indicated that the economy and inflation remained top concerns, issues that had intensified under Biden’s administration.

After withdrawing from the race in July amid concerns over his age, Biden made a congratulatory call to Trump, urging national unity and a lowering of political tensions.

The message was in stark contrast to Trump’s refusal to concede after the 2020 election loss.

Trump’s new administration is already taking shape. Susie Wiles has been named his White House chief of staff, making history as the first woman in that role.

Wiles, a seasoned campaign strategist, has received high praise from Trump, who emphasized her reputation for being “tough, smart, and innovative.”

Potential members of Trump’s team include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a controversial figure in the anti-vaccine movement, and Elon Musk, who may be appointed to oversee government spending.

Trump’s second term is expected to bring significant policy reversals, including a dismantling of Biden’s environmental initiatives, as he advocates for increased oil drilling and continues his climate change denial stance.
