Inside Nigeria
How Nigerian police stole my brother’s shoes, watch – Kemi Badenoch (video)
Kemi Badenoch, leader of the British Conservative Party, has reignited controversy by sharing her unfavorable experiences with the Nigerian police during a recent interview.
Badenoch, known for her previous contentious remarks about Nigeria, made the comments while speaking with The Free Press.
During the interview, which began trending on Saturday, Badenoch was asked whether she trusted the British police. In response, she compared her experiences with the Nigerian police, describing them as negative.
Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some defending her perspective as reflective of real challenges within Nigeria’s policing system, while others criticized her for repeatedly casting the country in a negative light.
Responding to the question, Badenoch said: “I do. My experience with the police in Nigeria was very negative, and coming to the UK, my first experience with the police was very positive. The police in Nigeria would rob us.
“I remember the police stealing my brother’s shoes and his watch. It’s a very poor country, so people do all sorts of things.”
