Isak’s hat-trick leads Newcastle to 4-0 win over Ipswich

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak delivered a scintillating performance, netting a hat-trick as the Magpies demolished Ipswich Town 4-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The victory was fueled by defensive lapses from the hosts and clinical finishing from Isak and Jacob Murphy, propelling Newcastle to seventh place in the standings.

The game began explosively, with Isak opening the scoring just 26 seconds in. Jacob Murphy’s run and cross from the right led to a miscue by Ipswich’s Sam Morsy, leaving the Swedish forward to fire home after a VAR review confirmed the goal.

Murphy, a constant threat, doubled Newcastle’s advantage in the 32nd minute. Receiving a precise pass from Anthony Gordon, he controlled the ball and unleashed a powerful strike past goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

Ipswich’s defensive woes continued in first-half stoppage time when a failed attempt to play out from the back gifted Isak his second goal.

The Swede completed his hat-trick in the 54th minute with a composed finish, following a clever back-heel assist from Murphy. A late goal by Dan Burn was disallowed for offside, but the result was never in doubt.

The win sees Newcastle climb to 26 points, while Ipswich languishes in 18th place with 12 points, intensifying their relegation concerns.

Isak’s treble, his first since joining Newcastle in August 2022, underscores his growing influence as Eddie Howe’s side builds momentum during the festive season.

“We’ve been playing so much better lately, and it has been showing in the results,” a delighted Isak said. “It (the hat-trick) has been a long time coming for Newcastle, my first one here, I’m buzzing.”

The 25-year-old has six goals in his last four league games.

“Just scoring goals will give confidence and help me and the team. It doesn’t matter if it’s one, two or three,” Isak added. “He (Murphy) is really helpful, a team player. I am obviously happy for him that he gets rewarded with points too.”
