JUST-IN: Gov Yusuf reshuffles cabinet, sacks SSG, CoS, others

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State announced a significant reshuffle of the State Executive Council on Thursday, citing the need for enhanced performance and alignment with his administration’s goals.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor disclosed that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, was relieved of his duties due to health concerns. Similarly, the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Sagag, was dropped, with the office of the Chief of Staff scrapped entirely.

The shake-up, described as the first major cabinet restructuring, took immediate effect.

Key Retained Officials

Several cabinet members retained their positions, including:

Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, Commissioner for Agriculture.

Dr. Abubakar Labaran, Commissioner for Health.

Hon. Abduljabbar Umar, Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning.

Hon. Musa Shannon, Commissioner for Budget and Planning.

Alhaji Marwan Ahmad, Commissioner for Works and Housing.

Other retained commissioners include:

Sefiyanu Hamza, Solid and Mineral Resources.

Sheikh Ahmad Auwal, Religious Affairs.

Hon. Mustapha Kwankwaso, Youth and Sports.

Adamu Kibiya, Investment and Commerce.

Retired Maj.-Gen. Mohammad Idris, Internal Security and Special Services.

Reassignments

Several officials were reassigned to different roles, including:

Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulssalam, moved from Local Government to Higher Education.

Hon. Mohammad Usman, reassigned from Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata, transferred from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Amina Abdullahi, moved from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to Women, Children, and Disabilities.

Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, shifted from Environment and Climate Change to Special Duties.

Other notable reassignments include:

Hon. Ibrahim Namadi, from Project Monitoring and Evaluation to Transport.

Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, from Education to Water Resources.

Hon. Ali Haruna Makoda, from Water Resources to Education.

Hon. Aisha Lawal Saji, moved to Tourism and Culture.

Hon. Muhammad Diggol, reassigned to Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

Dropped Cabinet Members

Five commissioners were dropped from the cabinet:

Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, Finance Ministry.

Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Culture and Tourism.

Baba Dantiye, Information and Internal Affairs.

Shehu Yammedi, Special Duties.

Abbas Sani Abbas, Rural and Community Development.

The governor directed these former officials, along with the ex-Chief of Staff, to report to his office for possible reassignment.
