Ukraine reported a large-scale overnight attack by Russia involving missiles and drones, with successful strikes acknowledged in the Kyiv region and eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Air Force revealed that Russia launched 21 missiles and 40 drones in the assault, of which seven missiles and 16 drones were intercepted.

In the Kyiv region, debris from a downed missile struck a private home, injuring a woman, according to local authorities. However, officials did not disclose specific details about the other affected areas.

Russia claimed responsibility for the assault, stating it had targeted a military airfield and a munitions production facility using attack drones and precision weapons, asserting that both targets were successfully hit.

Ukraine’s air force confirmed hits in the Sumy and Kyiv regions, attributing them to ballistic missile strikes. Since the invasion began in February 2022, Russia has frequently launched nighttime aerial attacks on military and civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has escalated its counteroffensive with drone and missile strikes on Russian territory. A Ukrainian drone reportedly caused a fuel spill and fire at an oil depot in western Russia, according to a Russian regional governor.

As hostilities intensify, Ukraine has renewed its calls for Western allies to bolster its air defense systems to counter Russia’s sustained aerial campaigns.
