It shares borders with Benin to the west, Cameroon to the east, Chad to the northeast, and Niger to the north.

More than 250 different ethnic groups call it home, and English is the official language of the nation. These groups speak over 500 different languages, including Yoruba, Igbo, Fula, Hausa, Edo, Ibibio, Tiv, Efik, Ijaw, Kanuri, Itsekiri, and Idoma.

The population of the nation is divided between Muslims, who are primarily found in the north, Christians, who are primarily found in the south, and traditionalists, who are found among the various ethnic groups.
