A Brigadier General commanding a Nigerian Army Brigade in Kano State has reportedly been detained by military police in Abuja over allegations of theft.

According to a report by Daily Nigerian, the senior officer, whose name is being withheld by News360 Nigeria, was arrested for allegedly diverting rice palliatives meant for soldiers and selling military equipment, including generator sets and operational vehicles, to scrap yards.

Sources revealed that the rice was distributed by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters to brigades nationwide as a form of palliative for soldiers. However, it is alleged that the detained general only distributed 5kg of rice once and sold the remaining supplies.

The allegations against him also include the sale of a MIKANO heavy-duty generator, taken from the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano, to metal scrap dealers.

Currently facing interrogation by the special investigation branch of the military police, the general was reportedly invited to Abuja for questioning and immediately placed in detention. The Nigerian Army’s spokesperson, Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, has yet to comment on the situation.
