Nigerian singer, Rema, gets $3m to perform ‘Calm Down’ at wedding in India

Nigerian music sensation Rema was paid a staggering $3 million to perform at the wedding of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani.

This made known by the Indian news outlet Hindustan Times.

Mukesh Ambani, a prominent Indian businessman, holds the positions of Chairman and Managing Director at Reliance Industries.

As of July 2024, his estimated net worth is $123.3 billion, making him the wealthiest individual in India and the 11th richest person globally.

Anant Ambani, 29, is tying the knot with his longtime partner, Radhika Merchant, in an event many are calling the wedding of the year.

This grand celebration, spanning seven months, has drawn worldwide attention, showcasing the immense wealth and influence of the Ambani family.

Rema arrived in India on Friday to perform at the Jio World Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, where the star-studded wedding is taking place. The couple began their wedding journey with a roka ceremony in 2022, followed by an engagement in 2023.

In addition to Rema, other notable performers include Puerto Rican artist Luis Fonsi, known for his hit “Despacito,” and Justin Bieber, who reportedly received $10 million for his appearance. Rema’s record label, Mavin Records, shared a clip of his performance on social media.

A Star-Studded Event

The wedding guest list is packed with high-profile figures from various industries. Celebrities expected to attend include Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, futurist Peter Diamandis, artist Jeff Koons, self-help coach Jay Shetty, and former UK Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Tony Blair.

Notable political figures such as former US Secretary of State John Kerry, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, and former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper are also among the attendees.

Earlier this year, a pre-wedding ceremony was held in Jamnagar, featuring appearances by celebrities like Ram Charan, Upasana, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan. Pop icon Rihanna performed at the event. Another pre-wedding celebration took place on a luxury cruise with a performance by Katy Perry. The ongoing wedding festivities are set to conclude on Sunday.
